Circle Takes The Square: As The Roots Undo

cttscoverCircle Takes The Square is a band that has a very powerful and mysterious force that comes along with their music. Songs like Interview At The Ruins and Same Shade As Concrete have some very effective and moving melodic breakdowns. The music gets quiet, and the trio of vocalists crash into each other and their emotions spill out with every syllable that is being spoken.

The band has a lot to offer. The band is made up by four people, all of whom sing together and contribute to the band with more than just their music instrument. Their bassist, Kathy, really switched things up. Since she's a female vocalist, it adds to the uniqueness of each song. Bobby, Drew, and Josh also add their own style into each song. By adding twists and turns to their music, each song becomes and adventure of their own. Sometimes the lyrics don't make much sense, but it's the emotion put into the song that gives them so much credability.

Upon my purchase of this CD, I had never heard anything by them. I heard from a friend that they were good, but I wasn't correctly prepared for how great this album was. From start to end the emotions were pouring out and it was truly unbelievable. It's been about two years since I made this discovery, and for the entire time it's had heavy rotation in my CD player.

As The Roots Undo is the second album from Circle Takes The Square and personally, I think it's a lot better than all of their older stuff. With songs such as In The Nervous Light Of Sunday and Kill The Switch you can truly see the range of the band. On songs like Non-Objective Portrait Of Karma and A Crater To Cough In you get to hear some 3 minute intros that have melodic intros that set up for the chaos to come. The rest of the album has a lot more to offer for any fan of technical screamo or just plainly good music. I'd have to say the best song on this album would definatly have to be Kill The Switch because it has some really good melodic parts and the lyrics are some of the best compositions I have ever seen. Definatly look into Circle Takes The Square.
