hoods king is deadThis CD is a perfect example of pure pissed off hardcore at its best. This is the Hoods first albums on Eulogy records after a long dispute with their former label victory records. The CD opens with there title track "The King Is Dead." This song has everything a good hardcore song should have, circle pit action in the beggining, going into fast paced two-steps, followed by a breakdown that is just asking hardcore dancers to break eachothers noses.

Ive heard a lot of criticism that this CD was just your typical tough guy hardcore album...and your fucking point? This isnt some band that just decided to throw a bunch of breakdowns in their songs and follow up with lyrics about beating ass. This is the Sacto Hoods, the band thats been in the scene for over a decade, released numerous full lengths and E.Ps on other labels. Not to mention theyre live album respectivly titled "The Legend Continues." This CD is just another addition to the Hoods saga.

The CD has 10 songs with none of them meeting the 3 minute mark, making every song very straight forward and to the point. Although I would have enjoyed seeing more songs on the album so it doesnt seem as much as a tease.

One song that immediatly caught my attention was "Ernie Cortez". This song just gave me a small perspective of how painful and sad it was to lose a legend in our scene and community, once again proving this band has more to them than just spiteful lyrics and tough guy attitudes.

My favorite track on the record was "Heartless" hands down. To end on any note with this CD would be to say....GO BUY THIS ALBUM right now if you dont have it. And any other Hoods CD if you dont have them.

My rating: 3.5 out of 5
