Coming off their highly praised late 2006 "self-titled" 7'' EP, Shipwreck A.D. indulge deep into the ever growing artistic, powerful vision heavily influenced from the same spirit of rage that drove Merauder, Integrity to hardcore greatness. "Abyss," is the debut full length from Shipwreck A.D. who hail from the Merrimack Valley hardcore scene that gave birth to Converge, Ten Yard Fight and many more hardcore heavyweights. With the release of "Abyss," Shipwreck A.D. unleash 11 tracks of hardcore/metal proving that they are standing alone on top of the metallic hardcore scene and destroying everything in it's path. Noticeably "Abyss," unleashes the smash opener "Squall" which constructs and smashes with systematic, deliberate hardcore force to begin a record. Immediately after "Squall" hits "Beached," "Helix" are some hard hitting mid album dynamic, songs that show Shipwreck A.D. rage and pure hatred for humanity. Lyrically so powerful, musically so heavy tracks such as "Lotus," and "Erebos" hit hard with pummeling guitar work, assault roars which will leave you truly amazed how hard these songs are displayed on this record. "Ascent," and the epic "Zenith" round out the end of this awesome hardcore/metal record that truly lived up to all the anticipation and hype. "Ascent," starts off with a mellow guitar gearing you towards the assault of rage and roars which J.D. brings in the opening lines of the song. "Ascent," and "Lotus" probably are the best tracks on the album. "Thaw," "Erebos," and "Helix," are jams that truly make you wonder if this band can do no wrong with a flawless album like this. Shipwreck A.D. has left an enormous impression on the hardcore scene already, and this record truly is the beginning of more to come. Recorded with phenomenon Jay Maas at the Getaway Group, "Abyss" lived up to it's worth of being mentioned as the most highly anticipated hardcore album of the year. Lyrical content so powerful yet moving, musically so heavy and dark, Shipwreck A.D. deliver eleven relentless metallic jams with no bullshit throughout, just a powerful assault of above average songs leaving you with anticipation with each song. Sharing the stage with such great current bands like Have Heart, Blacklisted, and Ceremony, I am pretty sure you are aware of what Shipwreck A.D. brings to the table. Integrity, rage, heavyness, lyrically powerful, apocalyptic and dark is what "Abyss" is all about. Buy this record now. Rating: 9.5/10 |
