Abominable Iron Sloth - Demo

Lets face it, even if this band was fucking terrible, they would still be kick ass solely for the fact that their name is the Abominable Iron Sloth. Personally I have always thought that abominable was a drastically under used adjective in the hardcore and metal community. Not to mention the neglect of sloths. Factor in that three of the band members were in will haven, and they are at the very least worth listening to.

Musically the sloth is sludgy, down tuned, dark, and very, very heavy. Not like "squeeze into girls jeans and spin kick someone in the face heavy," but more like Heretic era Disembodied "beat Jesus Christ to death with a blunt object heavy". Its heavy to the point where the singer probably couldnt even make br00tal mosh call outs, because breakdowns dont stand out so much when there arent any fast parts. Now to someone reading this before hearing this demo, a idea of band with no fast parts could possibly sound repetitive and boring, but to the contrary, this band captures an incredible amount of energy I have yet to be bored or uninterested with any part. Id venture to say that much of the energy could be attributed to the drumming style on this demo. Sure there are no "snare kick snare kick" type fast parts, but the drums are extremely interesting and work fantastically with the music. At times they almost remind me of Meshuggah or A Life Once Lost, in the way that the symbols are played at a constant speed that almost ignores what the guitars are doing, but of course it never sounds offbeat or out of sync.

Last but not least, the vocals are definitely not something to be overlooked. They arent anything completely unique but they go extremely well with the music. Vocalist Justin Godfrey has a perfect mid-high range powerful scream and the vocal patterns are never awkward of clustered or anything like that. His vocals pull everything together extremely well.

Along with bands like southern Californias AD, I am ecstatic to see the abominable iron sloth, among other bands, playing a style of metallic hardcore reminiscent of its golden days, the mid-late 90s.
