Damn, I will definitely miss this band. I never even got to see them.. But they were awesome, just think of a darker Him, none of the love nonsense and none of the happy pop melodies.. Pretty much all just sad or straightforward rock riffs. But yes, this c.d. is their swansong. Theyre not even going to tour in America."After that SENTENCED is no more. And: THIS IS IT.
There will not be a re-union, come-back, or any other pathetic and soap-operish circus that seems to be in fashion these days. SENTENCED will rest in peace. " So basically theyre done, which sucks cause I wanted to see them at least once. Oh well. Anyway, onto the c.d.
The first song May Today Become the Day is a bit different than previous material. Its a lot more harmonized riffs than there average power chords and etc. Im guessing its about war by most of the lyrics. Theyve always had very pessimistic and depressed lyrics but they out did themselves this time around." They all think that I am brave, the strongest link of our chain, but really I just want a bullet between my eyes. Aim high." Theres more heavy parts and the solos are a bit different.. Instead of traditional rock scales theyve seemed to go for the more minor dark sounding leads/solos which always kicks ass. Track 4 (Her Last 5 Minutes) is more of a sad desperate sounding track... Im sure you could guess what its about from the title. This song has it all.. Huge descending rock riffs, full choruses complete with acoustic guitars accompanying the distorted guitars and even some keyboard utilizing strings and traditional piano sounds. The next song (Where Waters Fall Frozen) is pretty much a metal song. Probably for the fans that go back to the beginning before they changed to rock anthems with traditional singing. Theres no vocals on it.. Just fast drumming and fast playing. Im also sure this is no coincedence that this song goes right before Despair-Ridden-Hearts which begins with a harmonica. Yeah, a fucking harmonica. Im not saying this in a bad way, in fact it rules. But it sure was a surprise but it also made sense for this band. The last track after a brief interlude in the form of Karu is called End Of The Road which im sure is basically referring to the end of the band. This is an awesome song, it even has a choir in some of the parts and one of the best solos on the c.d. proving that they can shred but still make memorable c.d.s It doesnt sound like just mindless-ass noodling its a solid fucking solo.
This is a great ending for a great band.. Im not sure if I like it more than The Cold White Light (their previous c.d.) But it definitely kicks ass. The c.d. is amazing , the artwork is great which consists of beautiful photography im guessing of their home Finland, and the price was good. 13.99 :-) Fuck yeah im cheap.
Damn near all the songs are stand out tracks but I would definitely recommend End of the Road. |
