![]() Then Modern Life Is War released this cd "Witness". It's pretty much everything i wanted to hear in a hardcore band. The cd is so deep, lyrically and musically. You can honestly tell that they werent making the cd to please anybody but themselves, and from what it sounds like they didnt rush the writing process at all. The writing is thorough, the lyrics are solid and passionate, and the recording is thick, yet raw. It sounds live! I've had the pleasure of seeing this band only one time and that was at Showcase Theatre earlier this year when they played with This Is Hell. Damn what a show. I was really there to see MLIW but This Is Hell really blew me away as well. Back to Modern Life Is War though. There live show sounds just like the cd, and the cd sounds just like the live show. There flawfless. The only complaint i had about there set was they didnt play the second track on the cd called "Atchet" i believe. The guitar riffs are great in that song, strong and melodic. Every part of that song is solid. It flows perfect. I love Shai Hulud and if you do too you know what huludical means. I know it sounds cheesy but this song is definetly huludical musical wise, although it really doesnt sound like shai hulud. hard to explain. The lyrics in the song are pissed off and just make you wanna punch your steering wheel as hard as you can. That song "Atchet" leads perfectly into the next song (i forgot the name of it). This song starts off fast and pissed and just makes you wanna drum and scream it out loud at the same time. Its driving and only slows down for heavy interludes that just shoot back into the main chorus. It's about the bands old town there from and how some of the guys in town joined the military, and MLIW just kept playing in "there stupid band". Your in for major singalongs and pileons when you see this song live. The next song is a slower mid tempo pace, with drowsy slow guitars that are thick as fuck with lots of bass. of course the lyrics stay pissed off heavy as they do throughout the entire album. After that is "D.E.A.D. R.A.M.O.N.E.S." which of course is a fan favorite and is insane to see live. They pull it off perfectly. The seventh song starts off with just guitars and an off timed sounding drum beat. The whole song is mid tempo and never really builds up and drops down, it just constantly goes and repeats itself. It reminds me of a slow, yet heavy deftones song, minus the singer. Actually alot of the songs remind me of certain deftones riffs, not the metally cheesy ones they have once in awhile, but the ones that are octaves just strummed over and over with a steady, yet heavy beat over it. The rest of the album is solid as well. You wont find one single breakdown on it,and you wont find many fast punk beats either. But you will find plenty of heavy parts that just want to make you pound your fist on something and sing along. I defenitly recommend anyone reading this to go to our local record store or the Deathwish website and pick this up. You wont be let down. Track Listing: Favorite Song: "Martin Atchet" |
