To describe the album "We are the Enemy" as best as I can, I would say this is the soundtrack for a marine drill sargeant. Vocalist Steve Peacock has kept a steady pace throughout the album creating hopefull lyrics that perfectly convey what the bands name is. His lyrics describe overcoming everyday social parasites (drugs, alcohol,self-doubt), without actually explaining the real cause. This album has shown the true maturity process the band has gone through over the years. The music has this amazing ability to keep every moment just as intense as the last, while still building it all up to make every breakdown heavy and unique. I could say the same for Steve's vocal capabilities, he has a unique voice that sounds like a bear getting ripped apart. One song that really tore me a new one was "Demonized", it seemed like the song was just building itself up to get to the last 10 seconds of the song. His voice seems to be able to start at a calm tone then into a crushing roar in a matter of 5 seconds, and keeping it at an awesome pace, most predominant in the song "The Immortal." The only problem that I could really find about this album was that a couple of the songs never really blew me away, so the real stand outs were few and far between. But I dont recommend letting that desaude you from getting the CD. For any fan of good straight forward hardcore, if your edge or not I highly recommend this album. 3.5/5 |
